When reggae music manager-turned-entrepreneur Davie Simmons embarked on a wellness journey nearly three decades ago, he noticed a void when it came to eateries in Harlem that served healthy food options. After coming across a small vacant storefront along 125th Street, he decided to purchase the space and transform it into what is now known as Uptown Veg.

Kamuni Creek is a waterway in the Demerara River system, about 25 miles from Georgetown, Guyana's capital. It's characterized by dense rainforests, Caribbean and Indigenous communities, diverse wildlife, and thriving fruit farms growing soursop, pineapples, coconuts, and other tropical fruits. As part of a larger river channel, boat travel is the primary mode of transportation. The name Kamuni Creek represents Guyana's natural landscape and serves as an invitation for people to discover and learn more about the country's rich geography and culture.
